Who: Santigold on the main stage.
In 3 or Fewer Words: Color-coordinated comeback.
Memorable Because: Santigold’s Coachella comeback to the festival (and to the music scene in general) couldn’t be any more fierce. The producer/rapper/singer’s new repertoire was nicely sprinkled into her Coachella set full of old hits such as “L.E.S. Artistes” and “Say Aha,” and her two synchronized backing dancers/vocalists also returned with choreography and a wardrobe five times more outrageous than what they had in 2008. But it wasn’t just the two cheerleading dancers in the back who were color-coordinated. The entire band was also decked out in turquoise and yellow. “This is really awesome,” shared Santigold. “I haven’t been here in four years,” and as she said that more and more people flocked to the main stage. There was a reason why she was the aspiring queen of pop four years ago. Both old songs like “Shove It” and new ones such as “Disparate Youth” span quite wide across the music spectrum. It’s dance-pop infused with a rock and roll twist, and fans will never get sick of going on stage with her to dance during the fresh “Creator.”
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Wild Beasts: I bet they weren’t wearing any neon colors.
