Ears Wide Open: Right the Stars

Top 40 radio influenced producer Rich Jacques as a child, and it can be heard in the songs he writes today. As frontman of L.A. band Right the Stars (whose name derived from a Wilco lyric) Jacques boldly writes big pop hooks for his quartet’s propulsive guitar-driven rock. But Jacques’ project didn’t always boast brawny choruses. Before bandmates BC Taylor, Alex Balderston and Mike Schmid came along, Right the Stars was a one-man show; it can be heard on its self-titled 2010 debut. However, on “Hello Yes OK,” their most recent album (via Cousteau Records-NPM and the Orchard), the collective broadcasts songs like “Give It All” with heartier melodies than ever.

Com’on, Kevin. Their new album has hooks yes, but it’s nothing but unoriginal, uninspiring vanilla.
I don’t think Seraphina, who write the item, made the album out to be the Greatest Thing Ever. It’s an accurate description of what the music is.
