Ears Wide Open: Eyes Lips Eyes

It took Eyes Lips Eyes over a year to record 2011’s “Blue Red,” but the quartet, who call their sound “disco-punk,” are already hard at work on their follow-up album. Perhaps it’s because Tony Hello, Spencer Petersen, Aaron Hatch and Thomas Carroll all felt the rushing momentum of L.A. as soon as they made the move from Provo, Utah, but they’ve made some stellar choices when it came to picking some hands to help in the studio this time around. Working with producer John Goodmanson (Death Cab, Nada Surf), Eyes Lips Eyes are on their way to playing up those upbeat quirks that can already be heard in songs like “Tickle” and “Lumiere.” It’s not exactly disco punk, but it’s got energy high enough to fit in to the SoCal music scene here.
