Ears Wide Open: Wanderhouse

The vocalist of new L.A. duo Wanderhouse may look familiar. Marie Moreshead is known for her gentle, melodic folk, which originated in Portland, Ore., but her new project with producer/co-writer Doctor Rosen Rosen (who has also recently been working with Meg Myers) presents a musical backdrop that is slinkier and smokier than what most have heard in her prior repertoire. Moreshead’s intimate yet bright vocals are still the core of songs such as the shadowy “Use Me Up,” but with Doctor Rosen Rosen’s production, Wanderhouse’s sound is beautifully shrouded with a mystery in comparison to Moreshead’s unflinchingly exposed solo material. What started as a collaboration on a cover of the Everly Brothers’ “Love Hurts” has blossomed into a seductive sound, which will yield a new single in July.
