Stream: The Heavy, ‘What Makes a Good Man?’

The Heavy’s heavy-duty blasts of funky soul have long stoked the fires of L.A. fans (that 2010 show at the Hammer Museum was particularly memorable). Now the U.K. quintet propelled by the muscular presence (vocally and physically) of Kelvin Swaby is gearing up to release their third album, “The Glorious Dead” (due Aug. 21). Swaby and mates got a lot of mileage out of “How You Like Me Now?,” the single from 2009’s “The House That Dirt Built,” seeing it placed in a car commerical, a film and in multiple TV shows. The new track “What Makes a Good Man?” is a similar slice of immediately likeable vintage R&B, and it was explosive when they performed it at SXSW in March. They’re in L.A. this week; hope they bring the horns.
