Incoming: Barry Manilow, Beach House, Wild Nothing, Lyle Lovett, Big Freedia, Mates of State, Sara Watkins, Races, Rancid, YACHT, Mary Lorson and more
Above: Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel frolic in Mates of State’s recent video for “Unless I’m Led.” The indie-pop duo play Thursday and Saturday at the Echo.
Our staff picks of the week:
@KRBronson recommends: Races, Gliss and Lili Hadyn on Friday at the Troubadour. Great local bill is headed up by Races, the sextet that recently released their debut “Year of the Witch” [see the video for “Lies”]. Dream-pop trio Gliss has a new record en route, and Canada-bred singer-violinist Hadyn will be playing new music from her forthcoming album as well.
@Seraphina_L recommends: Beach House and Wild Nothing on Tuesday at El Rey Theatre. With Beach House’s recently released album “Bloom” on Sub Pop and Wild Nothing’s forthcoming record “Nocturne” slated for a release on Aug. 28 via Captured Tracks, it will be a nice double dose of dream-pop when both acts play their new tunes for show goers in L.A.
