Ears Wide Open: AKW

When we first spotted Alexandra Wisner in the middle part of last decade, she was all of 15, playing in the Tints with Harley Viera Newton and Clara Balzary (Flea’s daughter). The Tints, who made two EPs (one with John Frusciante), were already Wisner’s second band. Fast-forward a few years, and Wisner has released two solo EPs, made an Occupy homage, teamed with Chris Null to compose music for film and now, as AKW with Adam Cude and Sean Friday, unveiled “For No One,” a full-length released in February. The album offers an eclectic mix of folk, pop and electronica, cinematic framings of lyrics that are sometimes confessional and often confrontational. That AKW is already finishing up a follow-up EP is evidence that Wisner, ow 22, is only just getting started.
