Any fan of legendary 1970s psychedelic cartoon “The Point” will appreciate AM‘s first offering from his forthcoming album. The L.A. singer-songwriter adds his own brushstrokes to the Harry Nilsson classic, “Me and My Arrow,” with his signature beat-driven folk – and speeds it up just a tad for a modern flourish. AM’s soaring falsetto is most recently recognizable from his collaboration with London producer Shawn Lee on last year’s record “Celestial Electric,” but AM’s new album “New Normal” (out July 31) will be his first collection of solo material since 2010’s “Future Sons & Daughters.” Produced by Joey Waronker (Beck, among others), who also provides the drums and percussion, AM stays true to his ’70s and ’80s influences but softens the composition with acoustic and pop touches.
