Download: Earlimart, ’97 Heart Attack’

Seems as if two or three generations of Silver Lake musicians have come and gone since the neighborhood last heard from Earlimart, one of the early (and most enduring, owing to the many bands who have recorded at Aaron Espinoza’s studio The Ship) denizens of the scene. Long known as torchbearers for the lush intimacy of the late Elliott Smith, Espinoza and songwriting partner Ariana Murray announced this week that their new album “System Preferences” would be out digitally Sept. 18 (physical release: Oct. 16). It’s Earlimart’s seventh album and first since “Hymn and Her” in July 2008, but it’s not like they’ve been dallying. In 2010, they joined up with Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch in Admiral Radley, and Espinoza’s been busy in the studio, working with the likes of Ben Gibbard (solo album) and the Henry Clay People. The new song “97 Heart Attack” is a duet – a new tack for the duo. Nice to hear them back.
