Ears Wide Open: Tes Elations

L.A. experimental quintet Tes Elations make music that is hypnotic and even eerie, but most of all, it’s intriguing. Barrie Rose’s vocals coo as much as they yelp between the fluid cello lines, wailing guitar and potent drums. Together, Rose, Isaac Takeuchi, Christopher Votek, Andrew Lessman and Alex Noice are a conglomerate of musicians who combine psychedelia and minimalism and spice it up with a Middle Eastern flair. Tes Elations members have played with a variety of other bands including Dirty Projectors, Amanda Palmer, Julia Holter and more and their colorful “concept map” of all their projects can be seen here. The Steven A. Soria and Lindsey Lollie-directed video for their latest song “Visceral” is fitting as contemporary dancers in fiery red ensembles interpret the melodic excursion. Tes Elations’ self-titled debut on vinyl is due out Aug. 24.
