Download: Mad Planet, ‘I Want You’

Cooper Gillespie has channeled pedal-to-the-metal rocker grrl (in her old band Bang Sugar Bang) and electronic seductress in the early trip-hop work of Mad Planet. On the Silver Lake quartet’s new album “Ghost Notes” (out today), the singer-bassist is finds a comfy middle ground, her sultry vocals alternately biting on the rockers and sweetly vulnerable on meditations such as album closer “Slowly I Turn” (the video for which premiered today). “Ghost Notes'” arena-ready sound owes to the studio work of Ethan Allen, who wraps Mad Planet’s synthesizers and sequencers into a big package with Gillespie, Greg Gordon (drums and vocals), Tony Crouse, (guitar, keys and vocals) and Monica Olive (synths and vocals). Fans of the Pretenders and Garbage may find something to get their ears around here.
