Daniel Ahearn has one of those voices that commands attention – genteel but earnest, lyrical but lacking the extravagant affections that bog down many folk singers. In singer/multi-insrumentalist Mindy Jones, Ahearn has found the perfect foil for his frank meditations. And as Daniel Ahearn & the Jones, they make sweet songs that are reality checks in disguise. Well, maybe not even not even disguised very well. As Ahearn told us back in 2011, he’s the kind of writer who lives for that moment “of total truth,” and you’re liable to hear some of that on the band’s “It’s Not You, It’s Us” EP, two tracks from which are available for free download. Daniel Ahearn & the Jones are currently finishing up work on an album with Mocky (the Canadian producer/songwriter born Dominic Giancarlo Salole), who co-produced albums by Feist and Jamie Lidell.

i have thought daniel was just a monster talent ever since seeing him and mindy in the upstars bar at The Satellite one night between stage sets with them backed by strings and 2 other vocalists. caught them many times after that and noted their recent lack of playing, now i know why. great writer and singer, there must be a opening at a soon second tuesday at lot 1 for them to give my ears an update on what they have been up to
