Jeff Castelaz named president of Elektra Records

Jeff Castelaz, the co-founder of Dangerbird Records who departed last month in an upheaval at the Silver Lake-based indie label, has been named president of Elektra Records. Castelaz’s impending move to a major was reported here in September when co-founder Peter Walker (pictured at left, with Castelaz) resumed control of Dangerbird and elevated Jenni Sperandeo to president.

Elektra is home to artists such as Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Ed Sheeran, Justice and Marina & the Diamonds. The imprint, a division of Warner and originally founded by the legendary Jac Holtzman in 1950, was merged with Atlantic Records in 2004 and re-launched in 2009.

Rumors that one of Dangerbird’s success stories, Fitz & the Tantrums, would follow Castelaz to Elektra are unfounded, sources say. In an interview with the Times, Castelaz declined to discuss potential deals. Fitz’s sophomore album is ready for release in early 2013.
