Faris McReynolds is something of a three-pronged attack, with two of his exploits directed at your ears. He’s a painter who is juggling two musical projects – indie-rock explorations as ExDetectives and electronic music as One Finger Riot. He has made two albums as each, with OFR’s latest “Fly By Life” have coming out in September and, on its heels, ExDetectives’ sophomore effort “Farthest Star” due Oct. 23 via Post Planetary, less than a year after the first ExDetectives disc, “Take My Forever.” McReynolds’ work there bears the faint echoes of the teenage punk-rocker he used to be; occasionally angular and fuzzy guitars supporting plaintive vocals and brain-tickling lyrical themes. The single off the new album, “Second Chance,” though, is an old-fashioned stomp, supporting the notion that McReynolds is as versatile as he is profilic.
