Ears Wide Open: Rhye

Ambient electronic soul duo Rhye had anonymous members for a while, but at least one half of the band sounded familiar. The tender, immaculate vocals that carried their first single “Open” back in February offered classical-jazz undertones which is incorporated into much of Mike Milosh’s music. It turns out the Toronto electronic artist Milosh is indeed a member of Rhye, as is his Plus Research (former home to Dntel and currently to Anthony Valadez) label mate Robin Hannibal. Now residing in L.A., (Hannibel is from Copenhagen) the duo have already released their second EP titled “The Fall,” with the title track being a smooth and seductive ballad (“Make love to me / One more time / Before you go away”) laid upon gently looped piano and drum machine. It’s modern elegance, it’s Sade meets Air, and it’s perfect for the crisp winds that are setting in for the autumnal season. Both EPs, “Open” and “The Fall,” are out now via Innovative Leisure. A debut album is slated for early 2013.
