Ears Wide Open: Swan

Jacqueline Caruso is better known as one-half of husband-wife dream-pop duo Thurlow, but she’s branched out on her own under the moniker Swan. Her arsenal here includes the same rich, elegant vocals used in Thurlow, characterized by a new vulnerability that envelops this incarnation. Tracks like her single “Into the Storm” offer a beautiful simplicity with only Caruso’s voice carrying the melody and piano as the foundation. It’s the kind of deeply personal balladry that resonates throughout her self-titled debut on Gazelle Recordings – the label and artist collective she and husband Augustus Green (and Thurlow member) and a few friends started together. The Leslie Andrew Ridings-directed clip for the track follows suit with its warm filters and snapshots of Caruso purifying herself as she sings the intimate tale.
