Video: Jack Ladder & the Dreamlanders, ‘Dumb Love’ Seraphina Lotkhamnga on October 24th, 2012 Share this:TweetEmail 0 If you were to intensify Jens Lekman’s baritone and melodrama 100 times and coat it with a tone so dark it sounds ominous, you’d have Jack Ladder & the Dreamlanders. The brainchild of Tim Rogers, the music of Jack Ladder recalls fellow Aussie Nick Cave, and it’s earned notice in his homeland with two nominations for the Australia Music Prize – a “best debut” nod for 2008’s “Love Is Gone” and a nomination for 2011’s “Hurtsville,” now making its way to these shores via Holloweyed Records. Rogers tends to sing of love as if it were a journey to the gallows, but he wields a certain charm as well. Songs like “Dumb Love” have him sound profoundly lost, but sneering, and that overemotional combination is what makes “Hurtsville” so riveting. The Wilk-directed video is an excellent reflection of the single with its sleek black-and-white shots inserted with suddenly horrific facial expressions from Rogers. ||| Download: “Dumb Love,” “Short Memory” and “Cold Feet.” ||| Live: Jack Ladder & the Dreamlanders play Friday at Origami Vinyl and Oct. 28 at Los Globos.
