Two guys with distinguished backgrounds in indie rock get their heads together. They depart their comfort zones. They try something completely new (for them), and currently fashionable. They call themselves Night Terrors of 1927, and they don’t want you to know about their distinguished backgrounds, at least not until you hear the music, lest their resumés color your impression of the song. A little bit self-conscious? Perhaps, but that’s the way Jarrod Gorbel and Blake Sennett wanted it, at the beginning. Gorbel has to his credit two albums and four EPs at the fore of the Honorary Title, and another album and two EPs as a solo artist. Sennett was a principal on four Rilo Kiley albums and three by the Elected, and he produced Gorbel’s 2010 disc “The Devil’s Made a New Friend.” Here, the duo hop on the slippery slope of orchestrated electro-pop, all sad and romantic. Swoon away.
