Stream: The New Division, ‘Night Escape’ (featuring Keep Shelly In Athens)

On their new EP (out today), the New Division have teamed with esoteric Greek duo Keep Shelly In Athens for title track “Night Escape.” The New Division’s remix resumé has been impressive – with most every project undertaken by the Riverside quartet surpassing the original track – and among that body of work are KISA’s “Haunting Me” and “DIY.” It led to the first formal collaboration between two acts who do stirring electronica as well as anyone at the moment. “Night Escape” sounds as if it comes from later ’80s, more shoegaze than new wave synthpop. The track is a bit less chilling than usual from the New Division, as KISA’s typically beautiful vocals come with an eerie serenity, adding a delicacy reminiscent of Bilinda Butcher and Elizabeth Fraser. The second single “Kids” bounces along in Technicolor splendor, marching along in a rainbow of beats and effects.
