Ears Wide Open: SISU

Sandra Vu is now known most for drumming in Dum Dum Girls, but longtime fans of Vu will remember her as the drummer of L.A. band Midnight Movies, who saw their demise in 2008. Since then Vu and Ryan Wood have continued making music together under the name SISU (pronounced see-soo). With the help of Nat Keefer, Becky Calinsky, Jules Medeiros (also in Dum Dum Girls), Chris Stevens and David South, SISU’s sound mixes post-punk, psychedelia and electro into woozy concoctions.  Vu’s feather-light vocals and wonky synths collide on “Two Thousand Hands,” a song that could easily have come out of Britain’s indie ’90s. SISU’s “Demon Tapes, Vol. 2” is out now.
