Ears Wide Open: Future Dancing
Like the characters conjoined (conceptually, anyhow) in their new single, L.A. pop-rockers Future Dancing have undergone some changes since they released their debut “You Were Already Great Long Before You Met Me” in March 2011. Frontman Brandon Kaiser’s sister Maggie departed the band, and the now-quintet has worked on new material, including the New Wave-ish single “Ross Presley.” Kaiser explains that the song derives its name from Diana Ross and Elvis Presley and “tells of a young character (whom we can call Ross) who gets transported back to the 1970s and is shocked at how different things were then. As that initial shock wears off, he finds himself equally taken aback by how many things haven’t changed since that decade.” Astute, because Kaiser was born in the ’70s; imagine if he’d lived through them.
