There’s something at once playful and sexy in the electro of L.A. quartet Hot As Sun – you don’t just dance to theirs beat, you dahnce. It’s an affectation to be sure, but a sweet one, and by the end of “Dahnce to the Beat” you’re liable to be obeying every instruction Deborah Stoll is megaphoning in. The song is the first track off the L.A. outfit’s debut “Night Time Sound Desire,” which features the girl/girl vocals of keyboardists Jamie Jackson and Stoll, abetted by songwriter/guitarist WAZ. The album, out March 26 via Last Gang Records (home to Crystal Castles, Chroneo and Boys Noize, among others), celebrates the power of the disco beats, handclaps and dance-floor romance in songs that flirt with girl-group, soul and trip-hop but manage to have a heart of their own.
