As many L.A. chillwave artists continue to seek inspiration from the same sea, sun and palm trees, the duo RotKraft has emerged with an outsider’s perspective. The duo of G. Chocolat and LBWSKY could very well be holed up in an Echo Park bungalow, soundtracking Los Angeles with their refreshing blend of chillwave, balearic, italo-disco and deep house, but Rotkfragt hails from Tbilisi, the capital city of the Republic of Georgia. Apparent influences include Aeroplane, Breakbot and the Magician, whose show at Tbilisi club Parachute initially inspired the pair to form RotKraft. “Got to Get You” is appropriately titled, with a massive bassline designed to instantly lasso you in, like something from local favorite KAUF. As entrancing as recent material from from RAC or Goldroom, “Got to Get You” is a versatile chillwave/ nu-disco track that’s as good poolside as it is on the dancefloor. The muffled vocals are an especially cryptic touch, and come courtesy of a Kevin Barnes sample from his cover of M.I.A.’s “Jimmy. RotKraft’s first EP is due on Nurvous Records and will consist of three original tracks, plus a remix of Goldroom’s “Fifteen.” The duo plans to tour the states in the near future, and eventually make their way out west.
