Indie-rock trio Torches is rebounding from a 2012 that can be characterized in a lot of ways – let’s just call it adventurous. They followed up two EPs released under the name Torches in Trees by unveiling their fine debut album “Heads Full of Rust.” They played a zillion gigs. And as the year closed, they had a fractious breakup with bassist Bridgette Moody (whose vocals remain on this new track). Braeden Henderson has come aboard to join frontman Azad Cheikosman and drummer Eric Fabbro, and the threesome is finishing up a new EP, “If the People Stare,” with producer David Newton. The first single, “When You Gonna?,” is a solid start. Meanwhile, Torches are offering that 2012 as a free download on Bandcamp.

Is the new bass player on this recording? It sounds like a girl singing at times? This band had a decent thing going, but with all the horrible things I have heard about the short singer in this pic, it makes me really dislike the music.
Chris (a.k.a. John Seasons): spread love…not hate. Hearsay is one thing. Why don’t you focus your energy on something positive?
Great tune! Excited for this release!
I have heard of John Seasons but have never met the guy. Brandon Doo, is that real name? If it is, I’m sorry you last name is Doo. If you want to meet me Brandon I will be at The Satellite tonight for Handshakes, I will gladly buy you a beer if your old enough to drink.
I really enjoyed this as well. With any breakup there’s always going to be rumors going around. Glad to see they’re still doing it.
I’m gonna have to agree with Chris on this one, I too have heard bad things about the singer. I met him once at a show, and he was extremely arrogant. Oh, and to answer your question Chris, I heard through a reliable source that their former bass player played synth and bass on this song and three others from the upcoming EP. -Michael
Hey everybody — I like watching band drama (from a distance) as much as the next person, but I’m not going to post any comments that contain (second-hand) allegations of malfeasance, and I’m going to tone down anything that sounds like a mere personal attack. The song was posted based on its merits, and I love it when readers fire back with their own opinions on a song’s merits. Thanks to everybody for reading BBLA. — Kevin
Superb work guys! I really like the melodies.
