Steelwells resurfaced in 2012 with the same lineup but with a slightly different sound on their “Cool Kids” EP. The Orange County-based quintet continue to work within this bold, new sound palette and share another new track titled “Dead Song.” Recorded live at Lost Ark Studios in San Diego, its tone is, again, less jovial than songs on their 2009 debut but that doesn’t mean the arrangement is less luminous. Even with a darker undertone their songs never embodied in the band’s earlier days, “Dead Song” is still a great summer tune with its atmospherics and soaring hook. Oh, and one thing that has never changed within Steelwells is the intensity of Joey Winter’s vocals. Emote along and enjoy.

Dead song. What an amazing song. It has a real summer vibe to it thanks to the video. The ‘dark’ lyrics are just a real bonus. It’s a great combination that not a lot of music artists can pull off.
Well done!
And of course: thank you for introducing me to this band.
