Ears Wide Open: Night Riots

Night Riots, though unsigned and independent, are not exactly new; as PK, the hard-working quintet has been and in out of its San Luis Obispo County hometown of Templeton spreading the gospel of synth-charged arena rock for several years, fashioning a sound that suggest a glove compartment full of Killers and Cure CDs. But last spring’s “Lost Boys Sessions” EP seems long ago; their first song under their new moniker, “Spiders,” is a simmering anthem that aligns the five-piece with more brooding Brits. It’s part of an EP that the band – singer Travis Hawley, guitarists Nick Fotinakes and Matt DePauw, bassist Mikel Van Kranenburg and drummer Rico Rodriguez – has planned for later this year.
