We’ve followed We Barbarians since their days in Long Beach when they first started shaping their gritty, arena-ready indie rock. They were scrappy cousins to Cold War Kids, releasing a roof-raising album “There’s This There’s That” (2009) and a couple EPs that represented a great start to realizing their grand vision. They moved to New York City in 2011 and took a nasty hit from Superstorm Sandy last year , but now Davey Quon, Derek Van Heule and Nathan Warkentin have returned with a new EP, “Mexico, NY.” Written on Lake Ontario and recorded in Nashville, the EP, released this month, reveals the trio in typically roaring glory, even if the video for the title track seems a little in-our-faces. Good to see the storm didn’t sap any of their power.
