Ears Wide Open: L.A. Witch

There’s only a little bit of sorcery on the first EP from the new trio L.A. Witch. But there is plenty of mystery, along with a healthy dose of take-no-prisoners distortion, in their dark amalgam of psych-rock, garage and Americana. The all-female troika of singer-guitarist Sade Sanchez, bassist-organist Irita Pai and drummer Crystal Nava made their new songs with producer Lucy Miyaki (aka Paige Stark of Tashaki Miyaki) and engineer Joel Jerome (aka Joel Morales of Dios). Oh, and for the record, they also credit the Lupita’s Gorditas taco track that was stationed nearby. Whatever their diet, L.A. Witch recalls the early ragged glory of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or the Black Angels, and “Get Lost” is the perfect jam to, well, get lost in.
