Ears Wide Open: The Singles

Sometimes you have to travel all the way to the other coast to find what you’re looking for, and that’s what guitarist Vincent Frederick and bassist Jenny Pirch, two Detroit-to-LA transplants, realized when they bonded over their love for two-part harmonies sung by the Everly Brothers. Although Fredericks already had success using the Singles as a moniker for a power-pop band back in Detroit, the band was reborn when the pop melded with Pirch’s garage rock past (her resume includes the Gore Gore Girls and the Cramps). Add in a little Buddy Holly flavor and drummer Nicky Veltman, and the Singles are now a power-pop rock band with tunes like stomping “(She’s Got) A Heart of Stone” and wistful ballads such as ‘I’m Not Waiting Anymore.” The Singles are currently working on a full-length. For now, file next to Tashaki Miyaki.
