Video: Spirit Vine, ‘City Daze’

Feel as if you’re trapped in a place as large and sprawling and multi-faceted as Los Angeles? Local quartet Spirit Vine’s new album “Ascender” – finally out this week via Manimal Vinyl – articulates your neurosis on its single “City Daze.” “L.A. haunts you / L.A. haunts you,” singer Jaquelinne Cingolani wails over sheaths of guitar – or is she saying “hounds” and not “haunts?” Not sure I want to know for sure, because it works either way. Over the course of the album, Cingolani ranges from anguished to dreamy to woozy, and guitarist Gabe Pacheco is the man responsible for the sometimes-gritty, sometimes-pretty textures. Bassist Aaron Bustos and drummer Jalise Woodward do their part, too, to drive “Ascender” into dark territory. Not quite the full-on gothic psychedelia-cum-stoner jams you’d expect from having heard Spirit Vine’s 2010 and 2011 EPs, “Ascender” is nonetheless something for your head, and your ears.

It’s a first time I hear of Spirit Vine. I listen to their songs and I really like it. The sound of drums is very good. Thanks for sharing this blog.
