She Keeps Bees

If you’re in need of tunes that smoulder with the heaviness of PJ Harvey and Patti Smith and the playfulness of the White stripes, but have delicateness in the vein of Cat Power, Brooklyn’s blues-rock band She Keeps Bees may be your new favorite band. The duo came together when Jessica Larrabee met Andy LaPlant, a frequent attendee at her initial solo shows, and taught him how to play drums. LaPlant then went on to produce She Keeps Bees’ first three albums, and they’ve just finished their next record with Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Wild Nothing, Cass McCombs, Dirty Projectors) that features Sharon Van Etten and others. Teaming up with other musicians isn’t new for the the pair though. Larrabee has been a guest vocalist for Van Etten and also on Groove Armada’s Grammy-nominated album “Black Light.” The forthcoming album should excite fans if they enjoyed She Keeps Bees’ latest 7-inch, which features the roaring yet percolating “Counter Charm” where guitars wail and Larrabee howls. The physical record, which has a cover of “Blue Moon” as a b-side, sold out quickly but is still digitally available over at bandcamp.
