Ears Wide Open: Heaps n Heaps

One thing becomes apparent when listening to the title track of Heaps n Heaps’ forthcoming EP “Dancing on the Moon” – intertwining vocals are hard to do. Give points to the upstart indie-folk quartet for trying something beyond the boy/girl harmonies so common in indie-folk quartets, though. The foursome has its roots in the collaboration between Australian songstress Alisa Fedele and singer-songwriter and Salt Lake City expatriate Zach Moon, who met after moving to L.A. Eventually bassist John Pruitt and drummer Ben Spear came aboard, and the group saw their music take shape in an East Hollywood apartment. Heaps n Heaps’ reference points (at least on this song) are many: a less twangy Lumineers, a less soulful Lone Bellow, a less pop-obsessed Mowgli’s. Twinkling keyboards, whistling, handclaps – all very different that Fedele’s other incarnation in the electronic world.

I heard this band on their Octoberfest fest tour to Snowbird and they are great! Can’t wait to get ahold of their new album.
