Ears Wide Open: De Lux

Music fans around Echo Park know Sean Guerin as a sound engineer and general scene supporter, but it’s his new guise as one-half of the electro duo De Lux that figures to elevate his profile. Guerin and fellow 22-year-old Isaac Franco make bright, wiry disco-punk that recalls the early days of Moving Units or LCD Soundsystem. Next week, De Lux will release a free EP via Scion Audio Visual, and 2014 holds more in store – the duo has signed to Innovative Leisure (Hanni El Khatib, Rhye, Nick Waterhouse, Allah-Las, Superhumanoids, et al) for a full-length. The 7 1/2-minute single “Better at Make Time” has one of those dance-floor-ready bass lines you can’t believe hadn’t been written yet. And yes, cowbell.
