Ears Wide Open: Guardian Ghost

Something gorgeous this way comes … thanks to Jesse Glick, aka Guardian Ghost. This L.A.-based composer has dabbled in a bit of everything, from spoken word to electro to rock (he was in Lo Mass Republic with Jason DeCorse, formerly of the Icarus Line), and now he’s trying his hand – and succeeding – at ambient folk-rock. Glick’s forthcoming solo album is a lovely composite of both husky-voiced rock anthems and soulful folk tunes akin to mournful sea shanties. With the record’s first lyrics written in an NYC apartment during a very long winter, the stories continued to unfold in between subway rides and eventually during a cross country drive. Now back on the west coast, Glick’s new material as Guardian Ghost finds a home in warmer shades. Even the heavy but heartfelt lead single “Sailor” now has a hopeful glimmer to it. A full-length is slated for a release in February this year.
