More than two years after Riverside quintet the New Division made a splash with their ’80s-inspired album “Shadows” – one of those records that rockists and electro-pop fans alike could embrace – the band is returning March 18 with a new album “Together We Shine.” Their extended absence didn’t owe to long touring or a glacial creative process, but instead to a spate of misfortune. A year into making the band’s sophomore album singer-songwriter John Kunkel sustained a hard-drive meltdown, complete with corrupted backup files. So the new album is something of a do-over for Kunkel and bandmates Brock Woolsey, Janzie, Mark Michalski and Alex Gonzales. “Together We Shine’s” 11 tracks include contributions from the Killers’ Dave Keuning, Starflyer 59 and Sara P from Greek chillwavers Keep Shelly in Athens. The new single “Stockholm” (which comes with in three varieties, including a club mix), is a sparkling marriage of propulsive and atmospheric, its swirling synths enveloping Kunkel’s lovelorn narration. We have to think there are about 10 remixes on the horizon.
