Ears Wide Open: Roy English

There seems to be a lot of alternative boys heading into the R&B game these days, and Brandon Wronski, aka Roy English, is one of them. After his former band Eye Alaska saw its demise in 2011, Wronski teamed up with former bandmate and guitarist Cameron Trowbridge to produce music together as Canary Dynasty. However, it’s Wronski’s solo material that outshines his previous endeavors. Sounding like an Erik Hassle with an R&B twist, Wronski’s persona as Roy English has swagger, but the seduction also stems from the cinematic orchestrations underneath his vocals. The atmospherics here differ greatly from his Fearless Records days, but these songs are smooth as a good glass of whiskey. Roy English is currently working on an EP that is slated for a release on Lava Records, home to artists such as Lorde and Ida Maria.
