You may have had enough of Avicii’s smash hit “Wake Me Up,” which Aloe Blacc co-wrote and performed vocals on, but you can always go back to Blacc’s own hits like “I Need a Dollar” if you want to get away from mainstream radio. The soul singer has been making music with his own and putting spins on tunes for collaborations for some quite some time now. He shows his unique style again on his latest single, “I’m the Man.” It’s a simple melody with an even easier chorus to remember, thanks to his use of the Elton John lyric “You can tell everybody,” but its journey from an initial hook for a Dr. Dre song to the first push for his forthcoming album “Lift Your Spirit” (due March 11 via Interscope) is an interesting story.
