Download: Charlie Greene, ‘Man on Fire’

3Sorting out all the hillbilly high jinx on the new album from L.A.-based Charlie Greene is a bit like trying to remember where you parked the Caddy after a day-night bender. So here we will crib from an interview the self-professed “combustion scientist” gave to Elmore Magazine: “My new record has something for everybody. It’s got a megalomania song, a middle-eastern abduction song, a song that takes place in a Dyson vacuum, two love songs, one of which is disguised as a business transaction, a confusion song, a learn-to-embrace-your-confusion song, and a song inspired by Milo and Otis.” Equal parts raconteur, provocateur and soul-searcher, Greene abides no country music formulas (thankfully) on the self-titled album, which came out today. The single “Man on Fire,” with its whimsical background vocals, is but one sign listeners are dealing with an unusual talent. Get your twang on.
