Terraplane Sun look like a roots-rock band out of central casting, if central casting were headquartered in Venice, and sound like they’ve done their homework, mixing blues, soul and folk into a California-vibing take on Southern rock. They’ve made their mark with pulse-pounding live shows and seen their music used all over television, but through two albums and two EPs (though 2012’s “Friends” seems to have vanished now from the digital realm), it’s telling that their most memorable song is a remake of “Funnel of Love,” which rockabilly goddess Wanda Jackson made a hit in 1961. The quintet – Ben Rothbard,  Johnny Zambetti, Cecil Campanaro, Gabe Feeberg and Lyle Riddle – figures to make big statement in July with the release of the aptly titled “Generation Blues.” The new album contains all six songs from the “Friends” EP, along with recast versions of two songs from Terraplane Sun’s 2011 album, “Coyote,” including, yes, “Funnel of Love.” The handclap-driven “The Stone” is brand new, though, building from a piano intro into an atmospheric rocker, recalling, in the span of five minutes, both stages of Delta Spirit’s career.
