Video: Grizfolk, ‘The Struggle’

“The struggle you are up against makes you what you are,” Grizfolk frontman Adam Roth sings in the quintet’s monster single “The Struggle,” and ain’t that the truth. In Roth and bandmates Sebastian Fritze, Fredrik Eriksson, Brendan Willing James and Bill Delia, Grizfolk represents an assemblage of musicians from disparate backgrounds and far-flung origins, all combining on the fivesome’s EP “From the Spark” to deliver tunes that, as advertised, are “where folklore meets four-on-the-floor.” New Orleans-born Roth met multi-instrumentalists Fredrik Eriksson and Sebastian Fritze – both of whom hail from Stockholm and seem to carry the Swedish gene for lush production and melody – in L.A. in 2012. Sparks flew, and after the initial single and a digital-only EP took off, the band signed with Virgin, diving full-on into the scrum of electro-pop bands pining for four minutes of ear time. With this single, anyway, it’s easy to be bearish.
