Early Morning Rebel’s solemn, evocative pop is the work of Nathan Blumenfeld-James and Dustin Bath, who have emerged from the fashion, art photography and film worlds to cultivate a cinematic sound of their own. The band gained quite a bit of momentum when the single “Life Boat” was featured on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and that song will be the title track of EMR’s EP, due April 29. The new song “War on Love,” Blumenfeld-James, says, is about “loving someone enough that you are willing to be wrong for the sake of being happy. It’s about sacrifice and compromise.” Indeed, the ballad suggests all those life-altering realizations that become made-for-TV moments. Cue the epilogue and sing along.
