As fans have seen throughout her teenage growth spurt, Chloe Chaidez is a changeling. Fronting L.A. quartet Kitten, Chaidez – now all of 19 – can play ferocious rocker girl, electro-pop starlet, angsty confessor and New Wave princess with equal aplomb, making the foursome’s live shows a spectacle of surprises. When Kitten’s self-titled debut album finally comes out June 24 (via Elektra), it figures to have a smattering of everything. The latest tease from the album, the restrained “Why I Wait,” recalls a lot of production-obsessed singers (Nylon name-checked Banks and Charli XCX). As with the songs from Kitten’s three EPs, it makes for grand theater.
