The last time we heard from Ablebody, the moniker under which Christoph Hochheim records, the L.A. singer-songwriter had just self-released his debut EP “All My Everybody.” Hochheim has since rejoined the Pains of Being Pure at Heart on tour in support of the New York band’s forthcoming “Days of Abandon,” but that doesn’t mean Ablebody is being put on hold. With his brother Anton (who is also a member of POBPAH) joining on drums, Ablebody has a new 7-inch slated for a May 20 release, and its jangly A-side track is an ’80s anthem with all essential dream-pop elements. Its deep shoegaze tones highlight the talents the Hocheim brothers undoubtedly bring to POPAH, but it’s the soaring vocals that will have you filing Ablebody next to your collection of Ride albums.The dreamy haze also has touches of Cole M. Grief-Neill (Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Nite Jewel, Julia Holter), who mixed the track. Now if only these brothers would reunite The Depreciation Guild … (There’s already three of them on tour together.) Also file this one next to Depeche Mode and the Smiths, kids.
