A hot, steamy evening didn’t stop the masses from piling into the Echo on Wednesday night for a sold-out Broods show. The New Zealand brother-sister duo, who released their self-titled debut EP on Polydor in February and are preparing a full-length on Capitol for later this year, were also just as dedicated when it came to their second L.A. date (with the first being at Bardot back in February). Fans weren’t disappointed when lead vocalist Georgia Nott took the mic and swung her body into the groove of opening number “Never Gonna Change.” Wearing glowing neon shorts, Nott’s fierce swagger came as a surprise as Brood’s songs are well, brooding, despite the electronic beats. “Is it normal to be out on a Wednesday night?” asked Georgia. After a few cheers, she looked over to her brother Caleb and smiled before she responded with ‘That’s what we like to hear.” With a couple of new songs in the set like “Mother Father,” Broods captivated the house, performing with a live drummer. Their biggest hit “Bridges” was planned as their last song but applause led them back to stage for an encore. L.A. band Max & the Moon opened the night and Australian synth-pop quartet Strange Talk closed out the night.
