Ears Wide Open: Decorations

It’s hard to tell from Decorations’ first single whether singer-songwriter Devon Geyer is more girl-crazy or synth-obsessed. “Girls” comes at you like a Technicolor bounce house – pubescent Devo tooting and cursing along to scratchy guitar. Geyer, the son of prolific songwriter Stephen Geyer (who penned myriad television themes as well as songs for the likes of Glen Campbell, John Denver and Kenny Rogers), is a native of L.A. who spent some years in Boston studying at Berklee, where he performed under several monikers. He moved back home three years ago, building a studio, writing songs and forming a band that now includes Eric Johnson, Mike Malchicoff and Burleigh Drummond. “Girls” is an introductory bit of pop mischief that’ll put pep in your step.
