There’s a band called Desperate Journalist, and if they adopted that name to get the attention of the likes of me … Well done, kids. Maybe my band Disconsolate Artrocker can open for you? Certainly my last five years of underemployment would have enjoyed a better soundtrack had songs like “Happening” dominated the public domain instead of synthesizer-addled Kool-Aid. Anyway, this I know about similarly disaffected Desperate Journalist: They are Jo Bevan (who sings like a bunch of my ’80s heroines), guitarist Rob Hardy, bassist Simon Drowner and drummer Caz Hellbent (points for that name too), and they hail from London. The single “Happening” follows an EP and a single from 2013 that triangulate guitar noise, post-punk and moody romanticism to good effect. And they should be on tour opening for Morrissey instead of whatshername.
