Stream: Spirit Animal, ‘BST FRNDS’

“BST FRNDS,” the new single from NYC’s Spirit Animal, is a three-minute rager with a shout-along chorus and shots-and-beer guitar licks. It’s the latest testoserone-charged volley from the quartet led by onetime L.A. denizen Steve Cooper, who’s taken his love for funk, hip-hop and rock – and penchant for wryly funny haranguing – to the next level with guitarist Cal Stamp, bassist Paul Michel and drummer Ronen Evron. They are freakishly good live [at SXSW, they should have won Best Dive Bombers for the set they played in a rathole called Headhunters], and if bros who take their shirts off for big radio bands ever get the memo, all hell could break loose. God forbid those dudes would get the humor in “The Black Jack White.” C’mon, let’s drop some vowels together.
