In the past couple of years, Groundislava, née Jasper Patterson, has been carving out a niche in the Los Angeles electronic scene with the rest of his WeDidIt crew, including D33J, Jonwayne, RL Grime and Shlohmo, and putting the finishing touches on his third full-length album. It follows his eponymous 2011 debut and 2012’s sophomore “Feel Me,” and is titled “Frozen Thorn.” The first single “Feel the Heat” bangs with a trance-y propulsiveness, dances with “ba-da-da-dummm” trappings and surges with a synthy ebb and flow. Local duo Rare Times lend their vocals to the track, with their breathy chorus “Is that really you standing before me? / Baby, can we touch in reality?” floating above the infectious electronica backbone. The four-track “Feel the Heat” EP is out on June 24, which also featuring the tracks “October Acid” and “Reflex Engine,” and “Frozen Thorn” is due out this fall via Friends of Friends and WeDidIt.
