Video: Tijuana Panthers, ‘Four Horsemen’

When Tijuana Panthers first broke out of Long Beach, the trio proved they had the chops for surf-rock on their 2010’s “Max Baker” and last year’s successful “Semi-Sweet.” They’re just as rambunctious on their latest album “Wayne Interest,” but they’ve gone beyond their easy-breezy, sunny California soundscape this time. Laying down the punk heavier than they’ve done in the past, Tijuana Panthers speed into your headphones with new songs like “Four Horsemen” (its video’s rhythm above perfectly follows suit) and churn in your mind with slow grooves like the one in “NOBO.” As we previously mentioned, producer Richard Swift may have played a big part in this new direction, but the mystery and the edginess they’ve recently acquired? That kind of delivery can only come from the band. Here’s to breaking the mold and embracing the change. “Wayne Interest” is out now via Innovative Leisure.
