The opener of 2014’s Chinatown Summer Nights series could hardly have been a more euphoric affair. How so? Well, where do you start?
EFG (Electric Flower Group) gave a scintillating display of virtuoso psych-rock. Meiko charmed fans with her disarming pop songs and inspired a line at the merch table that stretched halfway to Echo Park. Pop quintet Babes [top photo] won the crowd with their playfully lascivious set, dispensing merch that included red underwear and lip balm. (We could not make this up.) Kera & the Lesbians provided a spirited nightcap of edgy folk-rock. Indie quartet StaG wowed early arrivals with a set of heady rock. And honey-voiced RÃJ proved transcendent with his yearning songs in the waning daylight.
